The Honda FL5 intake is the culmination of iterating on the FK8 system to provide an optimized solution that takes advantage of the increased space in the FL5 engine bay. By maintaining a sealed airbox, we were able to minimize heat infiltration and ensure a constant supply of cool air to the turbo. Because the intake is located directly behind the radiator, it is important to ensure the filter is not exposed; otherwise, heated air will be drawn into the turbo.

We also replaced the OEM flexible intake hose, which created turbulence and increased drag. With the FL5 intake, we designed a seamless path from the filter to the intake tract, eliminating drag and allowing for smooth airflow. Engine movement is now accommodated by the intake tract itself, allowing the tract to move within the airbox while still maintaining a thermal seal.

Our carbon airbox is designed to maximize available volume and minimize heat intrusion, resulting in industry-leading performance gains and aesthetics for the FL5 Type R.

It is introduced on Ameblo's "M&M HONDA's Honda Honki."

Since the intake is directly behind the radiator, it was important that the filter was not exposed, which was achieved by removing the flexible tubing and optimizing the inlet path with a Venturi stack connected directly to the filter. Additionally, we added a second inlet to the airbox with a scoop that draws air from the inner wing area. This equates to nearly doubling the total cross-sectional area the turbo can bleed through compared to the single entry on the stock system. The carbon airbox enclosure is designed to maximize the use of available volume and block all heat sources. The resulting performance gains and the design aesthetic of the intake shine within the FL5's engine bay.

A standard airbox draws air in through a single inlet duct located behind the front bumper. This inlet is very small in size at approximately 35cm^2 and the filter location is right behind the radiator, so just opening the filter in the engine bay is problematic as the filter quickly saturates with heat as the engine warms up. This intake system solves this problem by keeping the filter closed inside the airbox and adding a secondary feed that opens up the intake by another 28cm^2. Combined with a Venturi filter stack, it gives a smoother flow and immediate gains throughout the entire RPM range from 14-20h. The graph above shows a comparison between the stock airbox and the Eventuri intake system on a standard car with standard maps and exhaust.
